Job Description
Professional management position with local government agency, responsible for all day- to-day accounting activities to include accounts receivable/payable, payroll and fixed assets. Ensures consistent application of internal control procedures, accounting policies, procedures and processes in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Knowledge and skill in supervisory practices and principles. Reports directly to Director of Financial Services.
Requirements
Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Masters Degree preferred. 6+ years’ progressively responsible accounting and supervisory experience required. Government accounting experience preferred.
The Solid Waste Authority is a dependent special district under the Palm
Beach County Commission that was created by the State of Florida in
1974. Its responsibilities include the disposal of all solid waste in
Palm Beach County and the collection of solid waste in the
unincorporated areas (approx. 50%). It utilizes a fully integrated solid
waste management system including Waste-to-Energy, Recycling, Composting
and Bio-Solids Pelletization and Landfilling. It currently operates a
2,000 ton per day (tpd) Waste-to-Energy Facility and is under contract
to build an additional Mass Burn Facility with a 3,000 tpd capacity. The
SWA is primarily funded by user fees, electric revenue from waste to
energy and recycling operations, seventy percent (70%) of which is the
non-ad valorem special assessment. Non-ad valorem means the assessment
