Customer Tips

Facility Procedures

All vehicles entering SWA disposal facilities or transfer stations will be weighed, and for cash customers, a deposit will be collected.  If you have any questions about where to dump, the Weighmaster will be happy to assist you.  At the landfill there are also Spotters to direct you.  When finished, proceed to the exit.  All vehicles for which no tare weight is on file are required to weigh out to obtain a tare weight and the transaction is finalized.

Materials Not Accepted at Transfer Stations

In order to avoid damage to the tipping floor, transfer stations cannot accept the following items:

  • construction & demolition debris (C&D)

  • land clearing debris

  • fill

  • tires

  • mulch

  • animals

  • trailers

  • sludge

  • other items requiring special handling

Items such as those listed above must be brought to the landfill.  C&D must be brought to the landfill or to a SWA Permitted Facility.

The following hazardous materials are accepted daily at all transfer stations from residents of Palm Beach County:

  • antifreeze

  • used motor oil and filters

  • car and rechargeable batteries

  • fluorescent bulbs

  • propane tanks

  • electronics

For disposal of all other household hazardous waste see the "Where to Take Household Hazardous Waste" schedule or visit us during regularly scheduled collection events.

Unsecured Loads

Unsecured loads pose a threat to public safety and the environment.  The SWA requires that all loads be properly secured.  All loads not properly secured, as determined by the Weighmaster, will be charged as Unsecured Load Fee of $10.00 to help defray the SWA's cost of providing litter control on the roads surrounding the SWA facilities.  Your help and understanding in this matter is appreciated.

Contaminated or Mixed Loads

Mixed loads (i.e. trash mixed with construction debris or vegetation mixed with trash, sand or other contamination) will be charged at the higher applicable rate.  If, for example, a visual inspection of the load by the Weighmaster or a Spotter uncovers drywall or concrete in a vegetation load, you will be charged the current Building Debris rate.

Please see the tipping fee schedule for fee information and debris definitions.
