What is a Conditionally
Exempt Small Quantity Generator? (CESQG)
A Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator
generates less than 220 pounds of hazardous waste in a calendar
month and never accumulates more than 2,200 pounds of hazardous
waste at any one time.
For the purpose of determining CESQG status, only
wastes which are specifically listed or exhibit specific
characteristics as defined by law would apply.
The federal regulations identifying hazardous
wastes and hazardous waste management requirements are found in 40
CFR 261.
Do I need an EPA ID
Number?
Large Quantity Generators and Small Quantity
Generators must obtain an EPA ID number through the FDEP. CESQG’s do
not.
So if my waste isn't
Hazardous, I can put it in the Trash, right?
Probably not. Liquids are specifically banned from
landfill disposal and any wastes other than "typical" solid waste
must be handled according to SWA policy. Process wastes, chemical
wastes, hazardous and non-hazardous must be approved by the SWA
prior to disposal.
For example latex paint, by definition, is not a
hazardous waste, but in turn is considered a problem waste that
cannot be placed in the trash. Materials such as latex paint, oils,
oil based paints, etc. are accepted for a fee through the CESQG
program.
