Household Hazardous Waste

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to bring my AA, AAA, C, or D batteries to you?

No.  In fact, all alkaline batteries can be placed in your garbage.  However, rechargeable batteries (Ni-cad) must be disposed of properly.  They can be dropped off at any one of our convenient drop-off locations during regular business hours.  They can also be dropped off at any Radio Shack retail store.  For additional locations, call (800) 8-BATTERY.

I have 15 gallons of gasoline/water from my boat.  What should I do with it?

Large quantities of fuel must be brought to the HHW Facility at 6161 N. Jog Road in West Palm Beach.  The fuel must be from your own, personal use boat.  The fuel should be in sealed, easy to handle containers.  Please note: We do not allow siphoning on our property, nor will we empty a drum for you.

I have a business that generates small amounts of hazardous waste.  What do I do?

The SWA has a fee-based program for what are known as "conditionally exempt small quantity generators" (CESQG).  You must complete and submit an application and an inventory of your material must be received before you can schedule a delivery.  For more information on this program see HHW Disposal for Small Business, email us, or call us at the numbers listed below.

What is electronic waste?

Electronic waste is unwanted computers, printers, monitors, televisions, audio equipment and any other similar item with electronic devices.

What can I do with unwanted electronic waste I have at home?

You can donate your equipment to an organization or drop it off at any of our HHW collection locations.

Do you take electronic waste from businesses?

No, the Household Hazardous Waste facility does not take any electronic waste from businesses.
