How AWAY Works

When your garbage is dropped off at one the Authority's six transfers stations in the county by a garbage truck, it's transferred to one of the SWA’s 18-wheel tractor-trailer trucks. One of our 18-wheelers can haul about five to seven smaller garbage truck loads in it. This saves gas, maintenance on curbside trucks and roads, and allows curbside truck workers to get back onto their routes more quickly. The Authority’s tractor-trailers then go to our main facility where we process your solid waste in five different ways.
