https://swa.org/Facilities/Facility/Details/Biosolids-Processing-Facility-20Bring a little cheer to the end of the year by donating a new toy to a needy child. The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County’s Administration Building (7501 N. Jog Road in West Palm Beach) is a drop-off spot for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program.
New, unwrapped toy donations are welcome now through 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, during normal business hours. Toy donations can be either for a boy or girl, from infant age to 15 years. The hardest age groups to fill are both boys and girls age 0-2 and 11 and up. No clothes, stuffed animals, realistic looking weapons, or gifts with food are able to be accepted.
The goal of the program is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them into becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.

The Solid Waste Authority continues to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources, our children. The SWA joined in the efforts of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots toy drive in the 1980s. With the local community’s generous participation, the SWA toy drive has grown each year. The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County is a Dependent Special District that was created by the Florida Legislature in 1975. Since then, the SWA has developed an award-winning integrated solid waste management system to handle the county’s waste and recyclables. We call ourselves AWAY: whether you throw it, recycle it or flush it AWAY, we put your waste to work. Each year, we:
- Process approximately 90,000 tons of recyclables each year
- Burn approximately 1.8 million tons of trash each year to generate electricity at renewable energy facilities
- Produce enough electricity to power 74,000 homes
- Recycle 150,000 tons of wastewater treatment residuals (sludge from flushes) into environmentally-friendly fertilizer
- Safely dispose of more than 3.6 million pounds of home hazards a year
- Collect water off of the roofs of Renewable Energy Facility 2 and store it in a 2 million gallon cistern, which is used as part of the energy making process
