This Volunteer Spotlight focuses on Mary Gambolati, an SWA volunteer for the past 22 years.
Mary saw a “Volunteers Wanted” ad in her local newspaper and started working as one of the SWA’s Green Team Special Event volunteers in the Recycling Department.
When asked, “What do you enjoy most about volunteering at SWA?” Mary said, “I enjoy working with the friendly staff and educating residents about the importance of recycling right.”
Mary has given more than 1,650 hours of her time to help the SWA and our community. She has helped with myriad service projects, including: America Recycles Day, the SWA Employee Picnic, the SWA Benefits Fair, and as an SWA Shop Assistant at Green Markets and local libraries, South Florida Fair Green Team Assistant, and Administrative Volunteer in both the Customer Service Department and the Public Affairs and Recycling Department.
Not only that, but Mary volunteers at the Eissey Campus Theater as an usher and during tax season she volunteers with AARP as a tax preparation assistant. Mary is also a member of the Quilting Angels guild where gifted volunteers make beautiful quilts for children that are being adopted and in foster care.
Mary holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Middlebury College, Vermont as well as a master’s in economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County could not be more proud to recognize Mary Gambolati. Mary exemplifies what it means to give back to the community and indeed, the SWA is lucky to have such a brilliant, friendly and thoughtful advocate in our corner.
