[ARCHIVED] Winning artists announced in SWA’s recycling coloring contest

More than 200 extremely talented artists of all ages illustrated their artistic skill and recycling know-how by entering the coloring contest from the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County. 

Experienced professionals selected a winner and runner-up in each age category, and SWA staff voted to select the SWA Staff Favorites as well as the grand prize winner. The judging was based on creativity, originality, artistic skill, and interpretation and the clarity of the theme. Winning artwork is online at SWA.org/Coloring. 

Prizes have been generously furnished by the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County, its contest partners WFLX-TV FOX29 and Legoland Florida, as well as Chick-fil-A Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard, ESPN West Palm Beach, Florida Atlantic Sports Properties, Guy Harvey, Lion Country Safari, the Palm Beach Zoo, and Loggerhead Marinelife Center. 

The winning artists are: 

  • Age 0 to 4 
    • Winner: Sachin, Emerging Minds Montessori 
    • Runner-Up: Kaelyn, Manatee Elementary 
    • SWA Staff Favorite: Melodie, French International School of Boca Raton 
  • Age 5 to 7 
    • Winner: Sienna, Limestone Creek Elementary School 
    • Runner-Up: Jack, Homeschool 
    • SWA Staff Favorites: Tziona, Torah Academy of Boca Raton 
      • Shira, Torah Academy of Boca Raton 
      • Esli, Binks Forest Elementary School
  • Age 8 to 10 
    • Winner: Marcela, Morikami Elementary School 
    • Runner-Up: Jessica, Equestrian Trails Elementary School 
    • SWA Staff Favorite and Grand Prize Winner: Autumn, Loxahatchee Groves Elementary School
    • SWA Staff Favorites: Mia, Binks Forest Elementary School 
      • Ava, Beacon Cove Intermediate School
  • Age 11 to 17 
    • Winner: Ashlyn, Wellington Landings 
    • Runner-Up: Katheleen, Homeschool 
    • SWA Staff Favorites: Maymunah, Garden of the Sahaba Academy 
      • Tristan, Palm Beach School for Autism 
  • Adult 
    • Winner: Lucy Scheiner 
    • Runner-Up: Melissa Price 
    • SWA Staff Favorites: Debbie McManus 
      • Chad Prandi 

Each winner, runner-up and SWA Staff Favorite had their work displayed at the SWA’s celebration of America Recycles Day on Nov. 17, 2018. Copies of the coloring page are still available to those who would like them.
