[ARCHIVED] SWA’s August Household Hazardous Waste Tip

SWA HCRC August 2017

Get in gear with good practices that protect our environment and keep our community clean.

Whether from cars and trucks or boats, motorcycles, recreational vehicle and lawn mowers, DIY mechanics know that these items should not be mixed or thrown away in the garbage:

  • fuels
  • lubricants
  • antifreeze
  • filters

Palm Beach County do it yourselfers may bring these items to the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County or a number of local service stations and auto parts stores, who will accept up to 5 gallons of these waste fluids, as well as used oil filters.

The SWA’s locations include (from north county to south county):

Commercial disposal brings special guidelines. Call 561-687-1100 to learn more.

To prevent spills, transport used motor fluids in the oil change containers sold at retail stores or clean plastic containers with a lid. Clearly label all containers and never mix used oil with any other liquids, including water.

One cup of spilled motor oil can contaminate more than 62,000 gallons of fresh water, so keep sand or kitty litter handy in case a spill occurs.

Give our planet a brake – If there are a clutch of hazardous automotive products in your ‘hood, be an environmental de-fender and dispose of them yourself at the SWA.

More disposal information can be found on the SWA website or by calling 561-697-2700 or 866-SWA-INFO (toll-free).
